2017 was a great year for new tandem travels.  We explored Merrell's Inlet and Garden City, SC with our friend Sandy, three new trails in Pennsylvania, one in West Virginia, one in Kansas and one in Illinois.  Crossed Old Muddy on the Big River Crossing from West Memphis to Memphis with friends from Alabama.  Cranked UP the Virginia Creeper from Damascus to White Top Station for the first time.  Had a fantastic week in Colorado which included crossing the Rockies at Vail Pass (10,500 ft Elv) with the Vacation Bicycling group.

Our 2017 Stats: 12,000 TOTAL TANDEM MILES (4/14/2010 to 11/14/2017), 2065 miles for the year, 92 rides, 193 hours on our tiny little bike saddles.

Needless to say, our five days riding in Colorado is one of our best tandem experiences.

Day 1 - Silverthorne to Vail via Dillon Dam, Ten Mile Canyon and Vail Pass Trails

Day 2 - Vail to Eagle mostly on Hwy 6 - all good except for the flat tire near Edwards

Day 3 - Eagle to Glenwood Springs on the Glenwood Canyon Trail

Day 4 - Aspen to Glenwood Springs on the Rio Grande Trail

Day 5 - Breckenridge to Silverthorne on the Blue River and Dillon Dam Trails

June 20-26, 2017, Pennsylvania & West Virginia.  We spent a week drifting about PA and WV checking out some very fine Rail Trails.
York PA - the very historic York County Heritage Rail Trail
Jim Thorpe PA - The Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail from Summit Hill to Jim Thorpe
Meyersdale PA - The GAP between Meyersdale to the Mason-Dixon where we crossed the Eastern Continental Divide and biked through a 0.6 mile well restored train tunnel.
Morgantown WV - The Decker Creek Rail Trail

May 15 & 16, July 10 & 11, October 2, 3 & 18 - Seven days on the Virginia Creeper this year. The VA Creeper is 69 miles of crushed limestone, gravel, packed dirt, not-so-packed mud, rocks and roots. It is FANTASTIC!!  And always more fun with friends.
October 2 was our first time to ride UP the Creeper from Damascus to White Top Station - not that difficult.

April 28, 2017 - After a short drive from Memphis to New Albany MS, we got to spend the afternoon on the Tanglefoot Trail.  Excellent Rail-Trail.  Excellent Ride.

April 27, 2017 - Fun day in Memphis with friends from Huntsville AL riding the Big River Crossing and exploring a little bit of the city and then riding the Shelby Farms Green Line Trail.  Go Memphis!

April 19 & 20. We had a fun two days biking, visiting and eating near Myrtle Beach SC.
Day 1 - 17.6 miles on the Waccamaw Neck Trail from Garden City, through Murrells Inlet and Huntington Beach State Park to our turnaround at Litchfield by the Sea. Beautiful trail and no real alligators - Yea!
Day 2 - 7.7 miles on a Garden City Ramble with "all you need here is a cruser" Sandy, our local guide and B's childhood BFF.  Pigged-out at the Conch on the beach.

March 24, 2017 - The Tweetsie

We spent a nice, laid-back day on our Trek riding Tennessee's longest Rail-Trail - though by Rail-Trail standards, kinda short.  The Tweetsie's 9.5 miles of excellent chipped limestone surface runs from Johnson City to Elizabethton in upper East Tennessee.  Johnson City to Happy Valley (about halfway) is beautiful; Happy Valley to/through Elizabethton is busy(!) with way too many street crossings. Bottom Line - A Very Good Ride.

2017

January - March: The Townsend Greenway is our goto once or twice a week, 20 mile, just for fun and exercise ride.  It never seems to get boring.  When the traffic to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is light, we'll run up to the Townsend Wye and the Tremont Edu. Center.  Nice ride up and a great ride back.
