This was a very good year for our Tandem Adventures - probably our best so far. We road 2155 miles, visited 12 states, spent 211 hours in the saddle and accomplished our four 2016 biking goals:
Our own two-day self-supported ride on the Katy Trail
Ride the entire Silver Comet/Chief Ladiga Trail
Ride on the five Rail Trails starting at the Xenia Station in Xenia OH
Reach 10,000 Total Tandem Miles (4/14/2010 – 10/26/2016)
We spent a week riding the Mississippi River Levees and exploring New Orleans – Yep! Biked through the French Quarter – twice - once with our Vacation Bicycling group and once on our own. Even spend one whole day (mostly on our own) exploring City Park and the North Levee along Lake Pontchartrain. That was so much FUN! We are hoping to spend a week on some Colorado Rail Trails with Vacation Bicycling in 2017.
For sure, the high point was reaching our 10,000 total lifetime tandem miles. We chose to hit this milestone near the end of a 32 miles ride on the Virginia Creeper on Oct. 26. Seemed fitting since our first trail ride was on the Creeper in 2010.
Even though it was stinking hot and very humid, our best adventure of the year was the two days we spent on Missouri’s Katy Trail. We road from St. Charles to Gore with an overnight at the Red Brick Inn in Augusta. This was our first self-supported overnight ride. We will definitely be doing more of this.
We love the exercise, we love the sights and sounds of biking on some fantastic rail trails and we love sharing it with the folks we get to ride with and the folks we meet along the way. It seems to be a perfect balance.
